Khiamniungans welcome state govt’s decision

Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and Noklak District Demand Committee (NDDC) have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for upgrading Noklak ADC headquarters as the 12th district headquarters of the State on December 20 as it was a long-felt need of the citizens of Noklak sub-division.
A statement issued by KTC president L Ngon and NDDC convener W Chuba Lam said the people of Khiamniungan would remain hugely indebted to the State Cabinet under the “able and dynamic leadership” of Chief Minister TR Zeliang and NPF president Dr Shürhozielie Liezietsu for understanding the genuine needs of Khiamniungan people and reaching out to them in time by making Noklak sub-division the district headquarters.
The duo said the noble gesture would usher in a new era of hope, peace and development of backward, underprivileged and remotely-located communities like Khiamniungan.
The KTC and NDDC also expressed their gratitude and appreciation to all Parliamentary Secretaries, MLAs, high-ranking bureaucrats of State government, different tribal leaders and individuals for their timely support, valuable advice and assistance for the upgrade of Noklak sub-division.
Both the organisations also extended their appreciation to Minister P Longon, Parliamentary Secretary L Khumo and all Village Councils and individuals for undertaking all hardships and making immense sacrifices to fulfil the long-cherished dream of the people.
The statement added that the people of Khiamniungan were truly blessed, honoured and humbled for making Noklak the district headquarters and that they looked forward to receiving constant and sincere support and guidance from all sections of the society in the days to come.
Chang bodies oppose inclusion of Chingmei range under Noklak dist
Chang organisations comprising Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS), Confederation of Chang Students’ Union (CCSU), Tuensang Village Citizens’ Union (TVCU) and CTS have strongly opposed the State’s government decision to include Chingmei range comprising six villages – Chingmei, New Chingmei, Chendang Saddle, Waoshu, Yimpang and Taknyu – under Noklak sub-division of Tuensang district in the newly-created Noklak district despite several appeals and representations against any such move.
In a representation to chief minister, T.R. Zeliang through CKS president, MP Nokshang; CCSU president, Chingmak; CTS president, Naong and TVCU president H Wongto, the Chang apex headed by CKS and CCSU urged the government to respect tribal sentiments and consider administrative convenience of governing the Chingmei range from Tuensang district and thereby issue a fresh notification placing the villages under Tuensang district once again on or before January 5, 2018.
The organisations further warned of holding the government responsible should it fail to accede to their demand within the deadline.
