RH backs RNPC demand for autonomous dist

Rengma Hoho (RH) has strongly supported the demand of the   Rengma Naga People’s Council (RNPC) for creation of Rengma Hills Autonomous District (RHAD) in Assam.

RH president Pollem Tep and general secretary Sinhilo Thongseb said historical records point out that Rengmas, living in the Rengma Hills of Assam (now Karbi Anglong), were   distinctly documented even before the advent of Britishers in the area. On the proposed move of the Centre and Assam government for creation of KAATC in Karbi Anglong, RH said it denounced any peace deal without the consent, consultation and consideration of the legitimate historical facts and rights of the indigenous inhabitants of the land.

RH said if the government cannot provide basic human needs to the Rengma inhabitants of the Rengma Hill territories in Assam why impose a pseudo administration only to aggravate their sufferings?

RH said Rengmas survived on their own for centuries, however, their existence was now being threatened and endangered partly due to the apathy of the government. It therefore, appealed to Centre to show human compassion towards the plights of Rengmas of Assam and consider their demand for autonomous district, submitted several times to the government for permanent settlement.
