
State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) increasd the prices of petrol and diesel for the second consecutive day on Saturday pushing the prices of the two auto fuels across the country to new historic highs.
According to a price notification of state-owned OMCs, petrol price was hiked by 27 paise per litre and diesel by 23 paise.
With the latest hike, petrol price in Dimapur rose to Rs.94.82 per litre and diesel price surged to Rs.89.09 per litre. Similarly, in the state capital Kohima, prices of petrol and diesel climbed to Rs.95.77 per litre and Rs.89.85 per litre respectively.
The hike on Saturday was the 23rd increase in prices since May 4. In 23 increases, petrol price has risen by Rs 5.72 per litre and diesel by Rs 6.25 a litre.
Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.
