Fire razes house at Kohima town

A house was completely burnt down by a major fire Sunday morning at Jail Colony, Kohima, however, no casualty was reported.

Speaking to Nagaland Post, the lone occupant of the house, said the fire broke out when she had gone to visit relatives in the neighbourhood.

Although no one was injured, the owner disclosed that all belongings were completely destroyed by the inferno. Though she could not ascertain the cause of the fire, she suspected short circuit to be the cause. Fire Station, South, officer in-charge (OC), Sedevizo Hibo said the fire tender team tried their best and was able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.

He added that since the house was old it went up in flames in a matter of a few minutes despite the fire tenders’ effort to salvage as much as possible. After assessing power connections in the house, Hibo said the fire could have been caused by a short circuit.

Fire station report stated that the team reached the location within six minutes after receiving the fire call and completed the necessary tending works in 20 minutes. Properties including laptops, cell phones and kitchen appliances worth more than one lakh was destroyed.
