Two-day virtual training on “production technology and post-harvest management of horticulture crops” was organised for extension functionaries on June 23-24 by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) Nagaland.
A press release by CIH Nagaland informed that the training was organised with a view to consider potential and to increase production and productivity of temperate and spices crops in north east region.
In his inaugural speech, agriculture and horticulture commissioner, government of India, Dr. S. K. Malhotraemphasised on taking up scientific production of these crops and to promote post-harvest management of these crops for betterment of farmers in north east region with adoption of development schemes being implemented in the region.
Various aspects on production technology and post-harvest management of crops like kiwi, plum, cardamom and other important spice crops were covered during the training session.
The lectures and interactive session on production technology of kiwi and plum crops were covered during first day programme by scientists of Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Solan.
Training on status and scope of spice crops in north east region was delivered by director, directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut, Dr. Homey Cheriyan.
Scientist, ICAR-Nagaland Centre, Dr. AzezeSeyie gave a presentation on pest and disease management in large cardamom while post-harvest management and value addition of plum and kiwi was covered by post-harvest technologist, CIH, Nagaland, Vinika Aomi.
In his concluding remark, additional commissioner and director in-charge CIH, Dr. N.K. Patleen couraged all the participants to practically implement the technologies they have learned during the training programme.
The release informed that 100 participants comprising of horticulture officers, scientists, KVK field functionaries from Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh actively participated and interacted with subject expert.
