A “public announcement tower” constructed by a group of youths under the nomenclature “Mobocracy” in commemoration of its 25th anniversary was dedicated to Artang Ward Yimten on Sunday at the Artang community hall.
A press release from Ongchi Jamir of “Mobocracy”, stated that tower was dedicated by Artang Baptist Church Child education promoter, Atula. A minute silence was also observed during the handing over programme. During the formal handing over of the public announcement tower, Ongchi Jamir said that the group (or band) Mobocracy was formed “twenty five years ago when rock music was a trend”.
He said the group members have now become responsible citizens of the ward and ventured to give something back to the ward.
The “public announcement tower” erected at the Artang community hall ground, is 40 feet in height with three loudspeakers, a state-of the art amplifier and microphones. The whole project which cost about Rs 1.5 Lakh was constructed through collection from the group members, informed the release. Speaking on behalf of the Artang Baptist Church, deacon Mapu termed the initiative of the “Mobocracy” as a good example for others to emulate. Ward elder and leader, Lima Longkumer and Rongsenmongba, chairman of Artang Ward also spoke in the programme.
