National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) Longleng, commemorated anti malaria month in the month of June at Longleng block, Yongnyah block and Yachem block.
A press release by CMO, Longleng, Dr. Obangjungla, informed that anti malaria month was observed every year in the month of June throughout the country, prior to onset of monsoon and transmission season with objective to enhance the level of awareness and to encourage community participation in eliminating malaria.
VBD consultant, MTS, SWs, and ASHAs in the district encouraged participation of communities through mass media campaigns, interpersonal communication, distribution of posters and IEC materials, field visits, house to house visits to check the use of LLIN, and sample collections.
The anti malaria month was observed in ten villages selected from all three blocks, Hukphang, Lingtak, Yaongyimchem, Yachem, Yongnyah, Nyang, Yongam, Tamlu town, Shemnyuching and Yonglok villages.
At Longleng block, district vector borne disease consultant, Anyumoi Phom highlighted status of malaria in the state as well as of Longleng and encouraged participants to use LLINS regularly at night, to organise sanitisation drive especially during mosquito transmission season, to fill up ditches and other unwanted water collection sites in and around the locality.
She further spoke on signs and symptoms of malaria, causes, transmission, complications, and prevention.
The campaign was carried out following strict Covid appropriate behaviours.
Zunheboto: Zunheboto observed anti malaria month, under the theme “reaching the zero malaria target”.
In a press release, district media officer, CMO office, Zunheboto, Shekho Sophie informed that activities were carried out to create awareness on fatal vector borne disease to community.
Activities and malaria clinic, awareness and sensitisation, free distribution of IEC materials and distribution of first aid medicines, covering 10 hard to reach villages and high endemic areas were also conducted.
A total of 271 blood slides for malaria was collected during the month long activities, led by Dr. J. Hokugha, DVBO, DVBC, AMO, MTS, SWs and ASHAs.
