Border dispute: TRNYF dismayed by state govt’s ‘lackadaisical attitude’

Tzürangkong Range Naga Youth Front (TRNYF) has expressed its disheartenment at the lackadaisical attitude of Nagaland government in handling the inter-State border issues.

TRNYF president Bendangwati and general secretary Shiluyongdang in a press release appealed to the State government to establish border outposts and appoint village guards (VGs) at the earliest in order to avoid encroachment by Assam and future border skirmishes.

Acknowledging the establishment of Tsutapela check-post, they said yet the state government failed the public in all recent border issues. Citing the border incident of November 2020 at Aosenden village, TRNYF said that they had appealed to the district administration not to allow Assam Police to establish border outpost under Aosenden village jurisdiction, but the state government failed to do so.

They also alleged the recent incidents at Vikuto village on May 27 and June 29 June were the results of the government’s inaction.

Recalling that it had also appealed to the government through local dailies to establish border outposts and appoint VGs in all volatile areas in DAB areas, TNYF regretted that this had fallen on deaf ears.

Acknowledging that the border dispute between Nagaland and Assam had been in existence ever since Nagaland was created, it said in every border-related issue, especially in Tzürangkong range of Mokokchung district, the public were at the receiving end.

The front alleged that, ever since establishment of disputed area belt along the border, people from Assam were encroaching into the ancestral and traditional land and establishing tea gardens, farms and carrying out various developmental activities, even as the Assam government was turning a blind eye to all these activities. These all proved that the Assam government was directly involved in encroachment, it added.
