Clean election movement launched in Zunheboto, Peren

Clean election movement (CEM), an initiative of the Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC), was launched in Zunheboto and Peren on the theme “my vote, my future” on August 6. The movement was launched to safeguard and nurture democracy through educating voters about issues of corruption and inviting all to refuse to participate in bribery or violence.

Zunheboto: Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (SBAK Nito Mount) Zunheboto launched the movement at Sumi Baptist Church Zunheboto.

In a press release, CEM media cell, Zunheboto informed that, clean election movement convenor, Rev. Kughato K. Chophi, who was the theme speaker, talked about naysayers who claimed that the movement was of no use because during the clean election, more money was being spent.

He said that this discouraged people who were truly working for clean election and advised people to refrain from such talks.

He expressed hope that with the clean election movement, Nagaland would one day be like Mizoram in the election system.

He shared that one does not become an officer right after his birth, adding that change would come gradually.

Earlier the program was chaired by Rev. Victo Shohe ATBC pastor and recorded by co-convener clean election movement, Dr. Kasheli Rotokha, Sumi frontal Organisations including Sumi Hoho, Sumi Totimi Hoho (Apex), Sumi Totimi Hoho (Zunheboto), Sumi Kukami Hoho, Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu, Sumi officer’s union Zunheboto, Eastern Sumi Students’ Union and Zunheboto Range Students’ Union also spoke in the event.

LBA: Liangmai Baptist Association (LBA) launched CEM at Tening Town.

A press release by LBA informed that extra assistant commissioner (EAC) Nsong, Yimkum Ozukum asserted the importance of the campaign to ensure genuine changes and development in the society.

He lauded the initiative of NBCC and said that Nagas need to eliminate “all kinds of malpractices during election”. 

Tening Village Baptist Church Pastor K Lailubo also emphasised on the need to set Christian principles and do away any kind of evil practices. He also encouraged the members to boldly speak out and stand for the truth. 

Tening Town Women Wing Organization president, Champhung said that election should be conducted with clean and fair means and not influenced by any anti-social elements. 

The programme was presided by headmaster of Baptist High School Tening Kinkhambo; keynote address was presented by women secretary LBA and clean election core Committee member, P. Azon and prayer hy LBA executive secretary Rev. Kitanwi Chawang.
