Mokokchung police has busted an illegal LPG cylinder refilling racket on December 14 and arrested two persons allegedly involved in siphoning off LPG gas cylinder and refilling them into empty cylinders to be sold the consumers through gas agencies. Police said that the duo had siphoned off 40 LPG gas cylinders to be filled into five empty LPG cylinders. Around 70 new cylinder sealing caps and an LIP (used for siphoning of gas) have been confiscated from the duo. In this connection, a case has been registered at Police Station II Mokokchung for further investigation.
MCCI lauds police
Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has lauded the Mokokchung police for the swift action in apprehending the two individuals, and appealed for proper investigation as it was a matter of serious concern.
In a statement, MCCI president, Tsukti Longkumer and general secretary Limalenden Longkumer demanded that the identities of the culprits and their modus operandi be made public. It also demanded stringent action against the culprits to act as deterrent for such perpetrators in the future. Not ruling out a well-organized criminal syndicate was behind the illegal business, the MCCI has informed the customers and public to be vigilant and report at the nearest police station, in the event of any information or clue.
