
Department of soil and water conservation on conducted a training on Soil Health Card (SJC) and Soil Health Management (SHM), under NMSA-SHC 2020-21 at Farmers field, Changtongya on August 10.
In a press release, the department informed that while delivering the exhortation, senior scientist and head, KVK, Mokokchung, Dr. Keviletsu Khate apprised farmers to give importance to the soil health for agriculture development.
He also said that agriculture should not be considered as pass time or recreational activity, just to marrow financial assistance rendered by government, but to take it as source of livelihood and economic backbone while concentrating on organic farming and sustainable agriculture.
In the technical session, ACTO (horticulture), KVK, Mokokchung, Renbemo Ngullie spoke on “enrichment of soil fertility through the use of green manures and bio- fertilizers” while ACTO (agronomy), KVK, Mokokchung, Samuel Sangtam spoke on “different types of compost making and its uses”.
Meanwhile, junior soil conservation officer, Mokokchung, Toshinenla Pongen during field demonstration taught farmers the soil sample collection, use of GPS in sample collection and activities to be performed in demonstration plots with use of vermicompost.
Earlier, vote of thanks was propsed by soil conservation assistant, Changtongya, Imotiba while chairperson, DSCO, Mokokchung, Ruokuosietuo Dzuvichu highlighted the importance of SHC and SHM.
The programme was attended by eight villages under Changtongya sub- division and concluded with distribution of soil health cards and vermicompost.
