
Various institutions and departments in the state have been organising events and conducting activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence (Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav).
Rally held in Mokokchung: A rally celebrating 75th years of Independence was flagged off by Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Headquarters, Zerutso Kesuzie Thursday at Imkongmeren Sports Complex and culminated at the Town Square. The rally was organised by the District Sports & Youth Resources in collaboration with the district administration and volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) of Jubilee Memorial College and Fazl Ali College along with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mokokchung. Noklak reaches out to senior citizens: In commemoration of the 75th Indian Independence Day, district administration Noklak reached out to senior citizens of Noklak Town on August 9 and 10. According to a DIPR report, gifts were handed out to 131 senior citizens of Noklak town who were 75 years and above, as informed by EAC HQ, Kathyinla, officer in-charge. The district administration was assisted by the ward authorities.
Flag rally, road safety awareness in Wokha: A flag rally was organised by district administration, Wokha in collaboration with the district youth resources & sports office, NSS, and NYKS Wokha district on August 12. According to a DIPR report, the flag rally was flagged off by deputy commissioner Wokha, Orenthung Lotha. The rally commenced from police point-PWD junction via daily market and culminated at police point, where around 45 participants took part.
Meanwhile, the district road safety committee, Wokha conducted a road safety campaign to commemorate the celebration of 75th anniversary of India’s Independence at Wokha Town on August 12. The programme was conducted in collaboration with district transport department and traffic police, Wokha.
On the occasion, bikers driving without helmets were provided with free helmets and defaulters were also cautioned.
Later, activities such as distribution of pamphlets and leaflets on road safety awareness were distributed to commuters.
Mass social work at Tening town: In view of the upcoming Independence Day celebration, a mass social work was conducted at Tening Town on August 12.
According to a DIPR report, the social work was carried out in all the wards and town area.
Shops and business establishment remain closed during the working period.
PHED Peren division organises events: Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Peren division have been organising various events in the district since July 1 and would culminate on August 14.
According to a DIPR report, the department organised cleanliness and tree plantation drives at the water treatment plant area, New Peren on July 2 followed by a webinar on capacity building on ODF+ on July 13. Another webinar on JJM IMIS registration and Use of field testing kits (FTK) by WATSAN members and Swachhagrahis was conducted on July 18.
Swachhata Shramdham (cleanliness drive) of traditional well/ ponds/drainage systems was conducted in the villages of Ndunglwa, Punglwa, Samziuram and Gaili from July 28 to August 2.
An awareness campaign on Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) was carried out in various villages through the means of Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercises held from August 4-8.
Meanwhile an ODF plus sustenance exercise at village level would be conducted from August 10-14, where Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) would be inspected ensuring that no household is left behind.
Free health camp to be conducted in Longleng: In commemoration of the 75th year of Indian Independence Day, the district administration, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) in collaboration with medical department would be organising a free health camp for mother & girl child and healthy baby show competition on August 14 at Local Ground, Longleng.
Other activities to be undertaken include BBBP stall (promoting local products) and car poster campaign during Independence Day. All mother and girl child have been requested to avail the facilities provided.
PGC organises painting competition: Phek Government College (PGC), under the initiative of the college’s literary and performing arts club, organised an online painting competition for students during the second week of August.
In a press release, PGC informed first prize was bagged by Zhoku Nyekha (BA III semester), Chingmai Wangsha (BA V semester) and Kuzhongoyi Vadeo (B.SC III semester) won the second and third prizes respectively. Altogether, six students from various semesters participated.
