ATMAs conduct training and demonstration

Various blocks under Agricultural Technology Management Agencies (ATMA) have been conducting training and demonstration programmes for the welfare of the farmers. 

Chessore: ATMA Chessore block, Tuensang district organised field day, training and demonstration on various topics on August 16-18 at Shiponger village and Kiutsukiur village.
A press release by the block stated that during the training on post-harvest management of potato on August 17 at Kiutsuliur village, ATM Dekhingbe emphasised on post-harvest management.
Dekhingbe said post-harvest management was an important factor not only in preventing post-harvest losses but also in maintaining its nutritional value.
A farm school on apiary was inaugurated on August 17 at Shiponger village with Pongji as the farm school teacher. At the programme, BTM Merenjungla highlighted the concept and function of farm school followed by demonstration on management practices of brood comb.
ATMA Chessore block also conducted field day on potato on August 18 at a farmer’s field at Kiutsukiur village where farmers from Kiutsukiur village, farmers friend and ATMA functionaries participated in the event. 
Meanwhile a new food security group and Lunso FIG was form and mobilized where seed money was given to the food security group through direct benefit transfer.
Kikruma: Agricultural Technology Management Activities (ATMA) Phek, Kikruma block organised training, demonstrations and field day. 
A press release by ATMA Kikrum block, stated that ATMA Phek district officials and Kikruma block functionaries revisited Rüza (Zabo) farm school on August 3 at Kikruma village.
The block also conducted training cum demonstrations on “control of fall army worm using biopesticides and cultivation of carrot and broccoli” on August 5 and August 7 at Rihuba and Phusachodu villages respectively.
The team also conducted a field day at Coffee Farm School and mobilized new Food Security Group (FSG) in Phusachodu village. 
Altogether 50 participants including the officials attended the programmes.
Satakha: ATMA Satakha block has organised a field day on the topic of ecological restoration for protection and conservation of natural resources to help tackle climate change on August 5 at Shena New Village and conducted two trainings and six demonstrations on August 6 and 7 at Shena old and Usutomi village.
In a press release, the blocks informed that a training on soil and water conservation engineering for climate smart agriculture and demonstration on rain water harvesting for natural pond, demonstration on rain and stream water harvesting for TRC and demonstration on watering technique for tree plantation was conducted at Shena old village on August 6.
Meanwhile, training on soil and water conservation engineering for climate smart agriculture and demonstration on rain water harvesting for natural pond, demonstration on watering technique for tree plantation and demonstration on contour trenching, contaur bunds and staggered contour trenches was conducted at Usutomi Village on date August 7.
Resources person for the training/demonstration programmes were BTM L. Chichamo Shitini ATM X kuto Kinimi and ATM V Jimomi ATMA Satakha block.
They give brief explanation through audio and visual display with demonstration and also stressed on the important benefits, positive effect to its wider impact on agricultural and environment as a whole.
The main aim of the programme was to encourage farmers to plant more trees, to practice farming in sustainable way, stop river and stream pollution, protect soil and water degradation but to conserve and restore the biodiversity for a climate smart agriculture and environment sustainability to fight climate change. 
Coffee farm school was inaugurated on August 7 at Usutomi village, mean while Kashiho was appointed as farm school teacher during the inaugural programme the concept of farm school and training on coffee plantation was delivered by ATM, Tovi V Jimomi. 
ATMA Suruhuto block, Zunheboto conducted field demonstration programme at integrated farm school Tichipami on August 5.
Demonstration on “mass trapping of male moth using pheromone trap” was conducted where ATM Moanenla expounded that lures being a natural compound mimic natural pheromone attracted and trapped male moths and subsequent decrease in insect reproduction.
Later, use of plastic mulch in vegetable field for the conservation of water was demonstrated by ATM Kaoto where he explained the main objective of mulching and also showed how by use of proper plastic mulch drop in moisture evaporation from the soil cools the soil surface and reduces the impact of sunlight energy by acting as a barrier to the evaporating moisture vapours
In a separate programme on August 6 at Kiyetha, BTM Livika demonstrated organic seed production of cabbage on nursery seedbed where some management techniques for maintaining long-term soil fertility were explained. Further, use of organically accepted fertilizer products that provides plants with nutrients for good yield was shown. Seeds of cabbage were also distributed to the farmers. Altogether 35 farmers attended the training programme.
