Seminar on MSME benefits and schemes in Dimapur

A seminar on “MSME benefits and schemes for BAN members” was organised by Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Development Institute (ID) Dimapur, Ministry of MSME on August 24 at Life Spring corner, Lake view colony, Dimapur.

A press release by BAN stated that the seminar covered various initiatives and schemes of the ministry of MSME, government of India, which are of importance to Naga entrepreneurs.  

In his address, BAN president L Mongkum Jamir mentioned that during 2016 when the union minister for MSME came to Nagaland, BAN had submitted a representation requesting for a full-fledged MSME DI in Nagaland.

He said BAN’s dream has been fulfilled by effecting that upgradation in Nagaland headed by joint director, adding that Naga entrepreneurs and businesses should make use of that opportunity for furthering economic development.  

Jamir said that MSMEs contribute 29% of the country’s GDP and accounts for 48% export. Though the contribution of MSMEs from Nagaland may be minuscule at the moment, Jamir said the business community of the state should think and work towards enhancing that contribution to a substantial figure next five years down the line. He then said the change could only be brought about by the young people. 

Jamir said BAN would work closely with all the stakeholders for proper implementation of governmental policies that relates to economic activities in the state.

He said the association was committed to organising financial literacy programs for Naga entrepreneurs and businesses at various districts of Nagaland, which forms the basic requirement for all business ventures. In a PowerPoint presentation on various MSME schemes, joint director, MSME DI Dimapur, Taliwati Longchar said MSME DI Dimapur would provide all required assistance and support to existing enterprises and encouraged creation of new enterprises. 

He further emphasised on the role of the ministry of MSME to assist the states in their efforts to encourage entrepreneurship, employment and livelihood opportunities. 

Assistant director, MSME DI Dimapur, Selwin Samraj gave a presentation on Udyam registration and its benefits, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and MSME schemes for SC and ST entrepreneurs.

The programme was chaired by BAN general secretary, Dr. Yan Murry, BAN executive member Benthungo Kithan delivered the welcome remarks while BAN executive member Akherio Lazio said the vote of thanks.
