Nagaland Congress, which had changed the party nomenclature to Nagaland Reformation Party (NRP) on September 8, 2017, on Tuesday through its media cell informed that the party will continue to function as “Nagaland Congress”, and would be used for all official as well as election purposes till such time Election Commission of India (ECI) give necessary clearance.
According to media cell, the decision was based on the advice of the ECI on November 7, 2017 on the subject “Nagaland Congress”, a registered un-recognised Political Party under Section 29A of R.P. Act 1951 and change of Party’s name to Nagaland Reformation Party, informed media cell.
The party informed that the move was unavoidable as State assembly election was just two months away and also due to the heavy schedule of ECI currently bogged down with several upcoming assembly elections in India.
However, the party informed that if ECI clear the case before notification of State assembly election, then the party may face the election as NRP. It therefore, expressed regret for the inconvenience, due to short time factor and pressing circumstances but assured that sooner or later the party nomenclature will be changed to Nagaland Reformation Party as desired by general public. It may be noted that Nagaland Congress was formed by veteran congress leaders in June 2016.
