Dimapur generates around 110 to 115 metric tons of waste per day: Tovihoto
Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) in collaboration with team Better Dimapur, inaugurated a ‘Parkway’ at Golaghat Road, here, on Saturday.
Addressing the gathering as special guest, advisor, department of power, Tovihoto Ayemi said that even though the project might seem small and simple, it was project was very significant.
He maintained that for many years, the particular location was an eyesore for all passerby, however, with the construction of the parkway, it had now beautified the entire area.
Tovihoto said although DMC workers cleaned up every nook and corner under its jurisdiction early morning, he lamented how citizens loitered around making the city dirty again, and later blame DMC for not maintaining cleanliness.
The advisor, who was also a former DMC member, highlighted that Dimapur generated around 110 to 115 metric tons of waste per day.
In this, he encouraged citizens to know how to segregate waste, and waste management.
He further added that colony and village councils should also sensitise respective jurisdiction of waste segregation.
Tovihoto said that it was high time to hold the municipal election since without an elected body, centre would not release funds.
He added that it had been 11 years since the state had not held municipal election.
In his welcome address, DMC administrator, Albert Ezung asked for continued support and urged public to come forward to make Dimapur a better place to live in.
Short speeches were also delivered by president, GB Federation, president, DUCCF, SDO (Civil), Zuben Ngulllie, and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo.
Earlier, the programme was assistant professor, Dimapur Government College, Amongla Aier and dedicatory prayer of the park offered by Warehouse Church Pastor, Jack Pucho, SDO (c), Zuben Ngulie while Tovihoto Ayemi flagged off the bike rally on cleanliness awareness.
It may be mentioned that work commenced on July 5, and took only 19 days to complete.
It was further learned that the administration had to undergo several repairing and also installed the water pump three times, as result of vandalism and stealing by unidentified miscreants.
