Rio inaugurates staff quarter in Delhi

State chief minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the staff quarter type I, II and IIA and community center of Delhi Nagaland House staff at Sector 13, Dwarka, New Delhi on September 4.

In a press release, deputy director, PRO Kuolie Mere informed that Neiphiu Rio in his speech said it was a dream come true for him since in 2004, he had approached and requested the then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for the land at Dwarka.

He said that unlike other states, Nagaland was allotted two plots and the land was given on reserved price for which he remained grateful to the late prime minister.

While appreciating contractors and department for the workmanship, Rio said assets created by the government should not be liability but serve the purpose for which it was created.

He assured to provide more funds for completion of remaining components since cost escalation would hugely cost the state government if the project was further delayed.

He said that the state government achieved two assets in the capital at R.K Puram and Dwarka, Delhi and one asset at Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra.

Deputy chief minister Y Patton said that the state had progressed under the dynamic leadership of the chief minister and called him a “champion of development”.

Speaking on the occasion, minister for housing and mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum said that because of the chief minister’s “wisdom and far sightedness”, the project was conceptualised 17 years ago in his first tenure as chief minister.

He informed that the project took off in 2007 with: staff quarter type I, II and IIA; community centre; power sub-station; basement parking; staff quarter type 4, 6; staff quarter type 5 and 7 and twin tower, of which first four components were completed and the remaining three were under construction.

The minister acknowledged DDA, fire department, jal board for all necessary permission.

He also expressed gratitude to the housing department, officials, engineering wings and chief residents commissioner.

Earlier, Dr. Rev Pastor Ricky Medom pronounced the dedicatory prayer.

Chief resident commissioner and additional chief secretary, Jyoti Kalash, secretary housing, Kevekha Zehol, chief engineer PWD (housing) Yanbemo Lotha  and deputy resident commissioner, Wennyei Konyak were also present at the programme.
