
Department of Social Welfare launched Poshan Maah 2021 under Poshan Abhiyan, a central government scheme at Longleng, Peren and Mon on September 2 and 3.
The scheme aims to ensure community mobilisation and bolster people’s participation to improve nutritional outcomes for pregnant women, lactating mother, children and adolescent girls. Poshan Maah 2021 has been subdivided into weekly themes with a focused approach to improve holistic nutrition.
Longleng: Poshan Maah was launched at EBRC hall Longleng with ADC Longleng, D.Robin as special guest.
According to a DIPR report, while welcoming the gathering, CDPO Longleng, Longlang Luckpan briefed on Poshan Maah and urged all convergence department to cooperate to make the activities a success.
In his speech, ADC Longleng, D.Robin emphasised on the importance of proper nutrition for women and children.
He also said women should know which types of food to consume during the time of pregnancy.
Meanwhile, junior specialist, DH Longleng, Dr.Waulong briefed on importance of nutrition and preventative measure from grassroots level.
Peren: ADC Jalukie, K. Mhathung Tsanglao graced the launching programme of PoshanMaah at KejanglwaVillage, Peren on September 2. The programme was organised by Peren ICDS project under the department of social welfare.
Addressing the gathering, K. Mhathung stressed on benefits of planting saplings which had medicinal and nutritional values.
He encouraged the gathering for optimum utilisation of available land and start practicing organic kitchen garden in order to enhance the nutritional level in the diet.
The ADC requested CDPOs and staff from different blocks to work with full commitment for the successful implementation of the month-long celebration programme.
Later, the ADC declared the launch by planting a neem tree at Kejanglwa village.
The programme was attended by block CDPOs, DPRO Peren, AWWs, village councils, officials from district mission management unit, block mission management unit, NSRLM, RD block Jalukie and Peren.
At Jalukie, the month-long programmewas launched at Tening, led by district administration and department of social welfare.
CDPO Tening, Yanbeni Humtsoe highlighted on the activities to be carried out throughout the month.
Speaking at the programme, EAC Tening, Tumben P. Tsanglaoencouraged the department officials, especially Anganwadi workers to create awareness on holistic nutrition for children and mothers.
He further reminded how more than 50% of children in the country were suffering from at least one type of malnutrition and how the programmecould help in improving the nutrition status with an emphasis on micronutrients that were vital for a child’s mental well-being apart from other physical aspects.
Mon: Poshan Maah was launched at DRDA hall in collaboration with blocks (ICDS) Mon, under the theme on September 3.
According to a DIPR report, in his address, ADC Mon, Chingak Konyak encouraged frontline workers, supervisors, poshan coordinators, anganwadi workers, helpers and convergent departments to render cooperation, dedication and achieve the target with satisfaction.
He also urged the staff and masses in rural areas to maintain COVID-19 SOPs.
A briefing on children (0-16 years) was given by district coordinator child-line Mon, Eunice Thalih where she informed that their toll free no 1098 service was available 24×7 for assistance towards child abuse, injury, missing, molestation and rape cases.
