Phek District Maytas-Gayatri Damaged Victims’ Association (PDMGDVA) has threatened to impose indefinite road blockade on both Chakhabama-Zunheboto two-lane road (under Phek district) and Pfutsero-Phek two-lane road starting September 16, 2021 in the event the Central government failed to file its affidavit-in-opposition by September 15, 2021.
In a press release, PDMGDVA convenor Pushovoyi Nyekha and General Secretary Kuvesa Medeo stated that Union of India has repeatedly failed to file its affidavit-in-opposition thereby delaying the PIL process over one and a half years. PDMGDVA said the matter has been listed again on September 15, 2021 by Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
The association stated that the total road blockade would be enforced phase-wise: Phase-I would be for 48 hours starting from 6am of September 16 to 6am of September 18.
In the event the appropriate authority failed to give any positive response within 48-hour blockade, the association has threated to intensify the road blockade in terms of hours and days in the Phase-II till the desired assurance or action was taken.
During the blockade, PDMGDVA said vehicular movement would be affected. It said construction company of the two-lane roads would not be allowed any activity during the blockade.
However, movement of military, police, administration, medical duties, students’ board exam, funeral and wedding (on producing card/program) would be exempted.
PDMGDVA has requested the public to extend support for the cause of thousands of poor victims and bear with the inconvenience during the road blockade.
The association has advised volunteers in respective village/town to ensure the democratic process of protest and maintain peaceful atmosphere throughout.
