3 drown in separate incidents in Dimapur

Three persons including two minors lost their lives by drowning in three separate incidents in Dimapur.

In the first incident, a 10-year-old girl drowned at Chathe river near water supply colony, Ward-1 Chümoukedima.

Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) crime and Dimapur Police PRO Bharat Laxman Markad informed Nagaland Post that the girl had accompanied her mother to wash clothes to Chathe river where she apparently slipped and fell around 10.40 a.m.

Upon receiving the information, he said the police and locals of Chümoukedima launched a search operation and retrieved the body of the minor around 3 p.m., which was then handed over to her family.

Meanwhile, body of a 12-year-old boy, who had drowned on September 10, was recovered from Dhansiri river in Urban Haat area here on Monday.

According to the PRO, the boy drowned when he had gone to the river side with three of his friends.

He said a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team that was carrying out search operation for the last two days retrieved the body and handed over to the family.

During the search operation, the SDRF team also recovered another body of a non-naga person (around 40 years), who had reportedly drowned near Kushiabill playground. 

PRO said that the body had been taken kept at District Hospital Dimapur morgue for identification.
