Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded immediate appointment of Lokayukta.
NPCC president K Therie in a statement pointed out that there was no reason good enough to justify delay in appointing Lokayukta, except to only cover up corruption for some time.
“If they are the children of God and are at no fault, why should they be afraid of appointing Lokayukta? Why should they need to keep the post vacant for one year?,” he demanded to know.
He stressed that if the State government was free from corruption, then it should have no fear in appointing Lokayukta, pointing out that keeping the post vacant was an admission to cover up corruption.
Also questioning the silence of 60 MLAs on the issue, Therie pointed out that by remaining silent, they were only cooperating with corruption. He said they were unfit to represent the people and wondered whether people should support such leaders.
Referring to potholed roads, erratic power supply, private water supply, private hospitals, private schools and private agriculture, he said people had been left to survive on their own and fend for themselves, adding the State government had nothing to be proud of.
Also referring to CAG report mentioning about unverifiable projects, fraudulent withdrawals, misuse and diversion of funds, etc, Therie said stadiums, high court buildings, bridges and roads remained half constructed, while payments were fully drawn. He alleged that some people were becoming rich from unknown sources of income.
He said all the 60 legislators went to church but aligned with BJP leaders at the Centre who propagated Hindutva.
