
Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Kiphire division in collaboration with implementing support agency Akehda Amulung and Kiphire Town Council conducted “Swachhata Shramdaan” on September 17 at Kiphire headquarters. A press release by the department stated that the participants cleaned public places, collected and disposed single use plastic as a part of 100 days campaign on “Sustainability of ODF gains and achieving million soak pits” in consonance with 75th Independence Day “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. During the campaign, executive engineer PHED Kiphire division, Akokba Sair encouraged all the participants to contribute and to gear up and to actively participate on the ongoing 100 days campaign so as to sustain the tag of open defecation free. He further stated that “wall painting and slogan writing on ODF plus components” at various public places to raise community awareness would be initiated soon. Akokba asked all the concerned village functionaries to pass resolution to maintain ODF sustainability and achieve needed number of soak pits to manage grey water in all the villages. The “Swachhata Shramdaan” exercise was led by officials from DWSM, PHED Kiphire division and participated by members from Implementing Support Agency, Kiphire Town Council, Evangelical Union Kiphire, NGOs, and village functionaries from different villages.
