In observation of the 230th report of Department related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs on “Atrocities of Crimes Against Women and Children” by Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the Women’s Forum, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhamaorganised a Webtalk on September 18.
The webtalk was organized on the topic “Women Safety” on zoom platform which was attended by 286 female faculties and students from the college.
Resource person, St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous) Jakhama, HoD, department of sociology, Dr. Medonuo Pienyü stressed on the awareness about violence, legal rights, safety measures and helpline available for women as major areas of concern.
She added that women have internalised violence as “normal and hardly stand up against domestic violence” even though ending violence against women was everyone’s responsibility.
Mentioning some safety tips for women’s safety, she said that the society needed long term solutions to make a better and safer place for women.
Therefore, one has to empower oneself by educating, learning and sharing about violence and seeking help from the services provided by the state, she added.
