E&S department releases two publications

Advisor for fisheries & aquatic resources, evaluation and economics & statistics, L Khumo and special secretary Kevileno Angami released the publications of the directorate of economics and statistics (E&S), “Nagaland Statistics Handbook 2021 and National Sample Survey 73rd Round on unincorporated non-agricultural enterprise (excluding construction) in the state”, at a programme held in the conference hall of directorate of E&S, Kohima, on September 21.

Addressing the gathering, Khumo said the people did not consider the economics and statistics department as a small department as it collected and provided the data from different levels, which were crucial for policy makers and planners of the state.

He pointed out that the primary purpose of the department was to maintain a check on the functioning of other departments and villages where government schemes are being implemented.

Special secretary Kevileno said for many it may simply be numbers, but the data provided would be an important document for data users and policy planners as it provided the factual report on the implementation of various government initiatives and programmes in the villages and the state in general.

Giving the introductory note, additional director and HoD of E&S, Neidilhou Angami said that the department was doing its best to provide quality data to the government for decision making and planning the welfare of the state.

As a performing department, he said it has been annually publishing 9-10 documents and it was an achievement of the department due to the relentless service of the officials.

Maintaining that the data collected would have a direct impact the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the state, he sought the cooperation and support of the respondents in providing true data whenever enumerators conduct survey.

While giving the summary on the content of Nagaland Statistical Handbook 2021, Rhanbemo Kithan said the handbook contained vital statistical information encompassing a wide spectrum of socio-economic data pertaining to the state, said economics & statistics officer (ESO).

He said that the entire gamut of statistical data was organised and presented by grouping together related activities in primary sector data, secondary sector data, tertiary sector data, social sector data and other services data.

Giving the summary on 73rd NSS round report ESO Visi Yhokha said that it covered all unincorporated non-agricultural enterprises belonging to three important sectors – manufacture, trade and other services, excluding construction.

It is based on the data collected from state samples across all districts of the state covering 2947 enterprises – 660 from the rural sectors and 2287 from urban sectors, she said.

Both the publications are available in the directorate of E&S and the official website www.statistics.nagaland.gov.in.

Joint director Charles N. Kikon chaired the programme while joint director Neisatuo Puro proposed the vote of thanks.
