
Various organizations have expressed shocked and condemned the killing of former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN)Athuan Abonmai.
NH: In a condemnation note, Naga Hoho (NH) said at a time when Naga civil society organisations were struggling all these years to bring unity and reconciliation among the Nagas, it was disturbing and unfortunate to hear the news of fratricidal killing taking place within the Naga family.
Whatever be the rhyme or reason, the hoho said the killing of Athuan Abonmai was a cowardice act that deserved condemnation by every right-thinking citizen.
“Whatsoever differences we may have, killing is not the answer nor solution to any disagreement. As the teaching of Christianity talks about God’s creation of humankind in His image and God does give life, it is God alone that can take it away. We belief that all human livesare sacred and that the sanity of life is a very important elements of Christian faith,” the release stressed.
Naga Hoho reminded every political group not to forget to respecting people’s sentiments by avoiding killings, kidnappingsand unnecessary harassment to innocent public, stressing that the need of the hour was reconciliation among the divided society to resolve the common issue at the earliest for a better future.
The hoho appealed to all political groups to shun the path of violence and come forward to work for peace to prevail in “our land”.
ZLSU: Zeliang Students’ Union, Nagaland (ZLSU) expressed shock and pain to learn about the alleged kidnapping and killing of Athuan Abonmai.
ZLSU condemn the gruesome and cold-blooded murder and urged Manipur government to nab the culprits at the earliest and give befitting punishment. It said that such barbaric act does not have a place in civilized societies and called upon all right thinking citizens condemn the act.
The union further conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that almighty God grant them solace and peace at this hour of grief and pain.
ZSU(N): Zeliangrong Students’ Union (N) said it condemned the “notorious act meted out to one of our bravest leaders from our Zeliangrong community” , Athuan Abonmai, who was kidnapped and murdered.
Such act of kidnapping and assassinating an innocent live must be condemned by all sensible citizens and should be labelled as “a cowardice act”, ZSU(N) said.
The union further appealed to the law enforcing agencies to promptly investigate the case without further procrastination.
It also expressed condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that Almighty God grant them strength and solace to withstand the irreparable loss.
NPMHR: Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR-South) has condemned the kidnapping and brutal killing of Athuan Abonmai on September 22, 2021 at Tamenglong.
NPMHR (South) convenor Joyson Mazamo and co-convenor Koruphun Tantanga said they were pained as to how torture and killing of civilians by both state and non-state actors have devastated the land and homes.
It said that no justification will help salvage the dampened wound caused by the action of the perpetrators. “Clearly, the gravity of the situation is beyond the reasoning capacity of the perpetrators, or simply, senseless actions does not matter to them. Because what matters to them is serving their vested interest. We are concerned how vested groups will politicize this tragedy to communalize and divide the people,” it said.
NPMHR appealed to all sections of society to remain vigilant and said that anger and condemnation must not deprive the due course of justice for victims of such senseless killings. No amount of justification will exonerate what was done to Abonmai, it said, expressing deep anguish and condolences.
NZPO: Nagaland Zeliang People Organisation (NZPO) president Kingudi Joshep expressed shock to learn about the “ghastly and merciless murder” of Athuan Abonmai by some unknown men.
NZPO said Abonmai was a loving man and a dedicated leader who displayed his patriotic spirit by rendering his service for his people, adding that no one can fill the void his death has created. NZPO said it strongly condemn the gruesome killing and demanded justice at the earliest.
NZPO also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that the love of God enfolds them during this difficult time.
ZSUD, ZWAD: Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Delhi (ZSUD) and Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD) expressed shock, pain and condemned the murder of Athuan Abonmai.
In a press note, ZAWD president Benjamin Pamei and ZSUD president I. Smilingbo Pamai also expressed “concern and abhorrence as a matter of urgency regarding the savagery and cold-blooded murder of our luminary and condemn the culprits of such inhumane act in the strongest term.”
They said that September 22, 2021 will be remembered as a black-letter day by the Zeliangrong and will be written on the purple page of the Zeliangrong history.
They said that such anarchic action was jarring and called upon all to condemn such barbaric act of assassination.
ZWAD and ZSUD also urged the law enforcement agency to take swift action and punish the perpetrators as per the law of the land.
They also urged National Investigation Agency to look into the matter and punish the perpetrators at the earliest. ZSUD and ZWAD denounced the senseless and merciless killing and voiced solidarity with the bereaved family members for justice to be brought at the earliest and hold the perpetrators accountable.
