Agriculture Technology Management Agencies (ATMAs) and other agencies organised training programmes on Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) across the state with an aim to impart skill-based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas to promote employment in the rural area.
STRY is a flagship scheme of the Government of India, which aimed at imparting skill-based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas in agriculture & allied areas to promote employment of rural areas and for creation of skilled manpower to perform farm and non-farm operations.
Dimapur: In Dimapur, six-day STRY programme on “empowering women in agriculture through agripreunership” was held from September 20-26.
A press release by ATMA Dimapur stated that project director ATMA and DAO Dimapur, L Mhao Lotha gave a brief introduction about the programme.
SASRD, Nagaland University (rural development and planning) assistant professor, Dr. Mary Odyuo spoke about empowering women in agriculture and how this programme would enable each and every participant to be confident and take up agripreunership.
Dr. Ithika C Swu spoke on “poultry production and management: A way of employment and income generation”.
Mokokchung: Sensing the gaining popularity of mushroom as the superfood and the increasing demand in the market, ATMA Mokokchung in association with SAMETI, Medziphema and MANAGE, Hyderabad conducted STRY programme on “mushroom production technology” from September 20-25 at ATMA Conference Hall, Sangtemla ward, Mokokchung.
A press release by ATMA Mokokchung stated that the resource persons for the training were ATM Kobulong Block, ATMA Nuksunginla Jamir and area coordinator, NSRLM Changtongya Moasanen.
During the six days training programme topics on scope and importance of mushroom cultivation, type of edible mushroom best suited to the climatic condition of Nagaland, production technology of oyster mushroom, nutritional value, economic importance, marketing strategy, pest and disease management were covered.
Step by step procedure of oyster mushroom production like sterilization method, spawn inoculation, spawn run, incubation in oyster mushroom using saw-dust and paddy straw substrates were also done.
The training concluded with valedictory speech by deputy project director, ATMA, Mokokchung, Sentinaro Longchar while the certificates to all the participants was distributed by BPM, NSRLM Changtongya Moanungsang.
Phek: STRY programme on “post harvest management of kiwi” was organised by ATMA on September 20-25 at Lekromi Village, Phek.
A press release by ATMA Phek stated that resource person for the training were HO Kelhouzakie Chielie, HI Lhuveto Keyho and HA Keneitsei-u Liezietsu.
During the course of the training, the trainees were trained on post harvest management of kiwi fruit such handling, grading, storing, packaging and transportation after harvesting and also various technique to obtain kiwi fruit products.
The trainees were also taught the importance of dehydration in food processing to preserve fruits for longer period of time (increases the shelf life of fruits) and also various procedures/methods of dehydration.
