Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA, inaugurated Farmers’ Market constructed under iconic project, LADP and contribution from Indisen village here, on Saturday.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Moatoshi Longkumer said that farmers market was a community initiative as it involved the village council of Indisen and Indisen Baptist church.
He stated that the market was inaugurated with the objective to promote young entrepreneurs and to engage farmers in selling their farm produce while generating a sustainable livelihood.
Moatoshi was hopeful that the inauguration of the market would also improve the economy of the city and that it would strive to maintain a clean and hygienic market environment for both the seller and the buyers.
With regard to the management of the market, he said that the management would enforce strict compliance on transparency.
He informed that the market would be open for six days except on Sundays and the revenue generated would go to the Indisen church offer and a small portion of revenue towards the village council.
Moatoshi appealed to the citizens of Dimapur to purchase from the market as it would promote and help young entrepreneur simultaneously improving the economy.
Also speaking at the programme, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan acknowledged the initiative taken by the MLA for looking into the needs and priorities of the village and helping out through the Iconic project.
DC expressed happiness to learn the farmers market at Indisen village was made possible through collective contribution from both from Iconic project LADP and Indisen village.
Rajesh said that Indisen village was a well-organised village and had the potential to set an example for other villages to follow.
Short speech was also delivered by chairman of Indisen village council, who informed the entrepreneurs to sell the goods at reasonable prices.
Expressing concerns over wastage disposal that would be generated from the market, the village chairman also appealed to the DC to look into the situation regarding the disposal of garbage.
At the programme, invocation was said by pastor, Rev Dr Temjen Ozüküm, vote of thanks was proposed by deacon Dr Benjong Imchen and benediction was said by secretary Neken Kichu.
