Commemorating “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” (AKAM), celebrating 75 years of India’s independence, Land Resource Department (LRD) organised the culmination programme of as prime minister Krishi Sinchayee Yojna-watershed development component (WDC-PMKSY) batch IV to VI, erstwhile Integrated Water Management Programme (IWMP) for Zunheboto district on September 30 at town hall. According to a DIPR report, while speaking at the programme as guest of honour, deputy commissioner (DC) Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo said that he had been witnessing what LRD Zunheboto has been doing for the welfare of the farmers. He retrospected how popular coffee plantation was way back in 1980s but failed because of unavailability of market. District project officer (DPO) Zunheboto, V. Vikugha Sema while highlighting the project said that it was to restore ecological balance by harnessing, conserving and developing degraded natural resources such as soil, vegetative cover and water. He added that outcomes were for prevention of soil erosions, regeneration of natural vegetations, rain water harvesting and recharging of the ground water table which enabled multi cropping and introduction of diverse agro-based activities to provide sustainable livelihoods to the people residing in the watershed area.
The programme was chaired by assistant inspector LRD, Roselyn Chishi and vote of thanks was proposed by N. Kheshito Awomi.
