Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has said it was deeply disturbed by the abduction and “gruesome killing” of Athaun Abonmai, former president of Zeliangrong Baudi on September 22 at Pallong village under Tamenlong district, Manipur.
In a condemnation note, NSF president, Kegwayhun Tep stated that such “barbaric act” perpetrated by some anti-social elements have outraged the sentiments of the entire Naga populace and beyond.
The federation stated that while the entire region was collective striving towards lasting peace and stability, and for peaceful coexistence and respectful relationships, such “inhuman and diabolical act” had negated the very aspiration of the general populace, which ought to be condemned by all right thinking citizens.
The NSF appealed for peace and unity in all the Naga inhabited areas among various stakeholders, civil society organisations and individuals to co-operate in the days to come.
“We must respect each other’s history and basic human rights, accept each other’s differences and value the common interests so as to establish a secure future where the entire region will thrive together in harmony,” Tep added.
The federation also extended sympathy to the bereaved family members of late Abonmai.
