GBUD suggests govt to appoint Urban and Rural DCs for Dimapur

In view of the growing differences between civil society organisations (CSOs) of Dimapur and Chümoukedima over shifting of deputy commissioner’s (DC) office from Dimapur to Chümoukedima, GB Union Dimapur (Sadar)– has appealed to the State government to consider setting up two DC offices for the rural and urban areas respectively.

In a press release, union’s president MY Ngullie, vice-president W Kholie Kapfo and general secretary T Onen Jamir said they were both anguished and disturbed to see the differences in opinion and discontentment over the State government’s decision to shift the DC office from the present site to the new complex at Chümoukedima between Dimapur-based CSOs and Chümoukedima-based CSOs.

The GB Union observed that Nagas had been plagued by disunityto the brink of becoming a fragmented society, thereby preventing them from moving forward as a cohesive unit that would set a bad precedent for the younger generation of Nagas.

“Honestly, can the present Naga generation, be it the government, political leaders, hohos, NGOs, CSOs, student bodies and the people say we passed a good legacy?” they questioned.

Hence, they appeal to the State government to prudently consider setting up two deputy commissioners for rural and urban areas respectively for the welfare and in the interest of Dimapur district citizens. They reasoned that this would benefit every section of the society.
