Ministry of Textiles GOI official inaugurates multi-purpose common facility centre at Chungtia

Member secretary, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, government of India, R.R. Okhandiar, IFS, inaugurated the multi-purpose common facility centre under Eri Silk development for women empowerment project at Chungtia village on Friday. 

Speaking at the programme, Okhandia expressed his satisfaction over the progress of the project which he said was doing very good. However, he said that due to the pandemic, all the works have been shifted to online mode which has hampered the system of functioning at the ministry level. 

Stressing about the sustainability of the project, the secretary asserted that people should find ways and means and other value addition to continue since the duration of the project is not unlimited. He also expressed his hope that the project would become a good and reliable source of raw material production which would ultimately led to economic upliftment of the villagers in the days to come. 

The Eri Silk Development for Women Empowerment project at Chungtia village was established in 2019 under the Northeastern Region Textile Promotion scheme. The multi-purpose Common Facility Centre will house weaving and spinning machines that will employ around 150 women folks from the village.

Earlier in the programme, a brief report on the implementation of the project was delivered by nodal office-cum-consultant Eri Silk Development project Chungtia, Imotemjen, short speeches were delivered by officials including Dr. K.M. Vijaya Kumari, director CMER&TI, CSB, Lahdoigarh, Jorhat Assam, Shashank Pratap Singh, ADC Mokokchung and joint director, Sericulture, government of Nagaland, Yashimeren.
