NSF calls for 6-hr total shutdown; 5-day mourning

Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has called for a 6-hour total shutdown in all Naga inhabited areas on December 6 in protest against the actions of the Indian armed forces.

NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Supuni Ng Philo said that the bandh will commence from 6 a.m. till 12 noon. Medical, emergency services, police, weddings (with cards), students appearing exams have been exempted from the purview of the bandh. All para-military forces and armed forces have been sternly informed not to make any movements during the duration of the bandh.

Further, NSF has appealed to the Naga people cutting across artificial boundaries to refrain from any sort of merry making/festivities for the next five 5 days and to join in observing a 5-day mourning period w.e.f. December 6, 2021.

It also urged all to refrain from participating in Hornbill Festival, stating that it was not in de-fiance of any forces, but as a symbolic expression of resentment towards the government that has failed to protect its own people.

NSF demanded government of India to set up a court monitored committee, headed by a re-tired Supreme Court judge to conduct a fair and impartial probe into the incident.

It also directed all federating units and sub-ordinate bodies directed to severe ties with any Indian armed forces until befitting punishments were awarded to the culprits.

NSF demanded Centre to revoke AFSP Act from all Naga inhabited areas without further delay. The federation demanded a special Assembly session to adopt a resolution for revocation of the controversial AFSPA.

Compensation: NSF demanded announcement of befitting compensation by the government to all the victims of the Oting massacre and also to those injured in the incident.

Meanwhile, NSF expressed shock and condemned the heinous crime perpetrated upon the Naga civilians by the Indian armed forces, killing 15 precious Naga lives and injuring multiple others, in the guise of acting upon intelligence inputs, which failed them miserably.

NSF said it was enraged at the Centre for “waging an undeclared war” with the Nagas by allowing its indiscipline yet “trigger-happy armed personnel to indulge in activities” which violates the basic principle of human rights and personal dignity.

NSF said the incident of the Indian armed forces indiscriminately firing upon peaceful civilians was not unprecedented as the government of India had tried to suppress the legitimate people’s movement through military means despite realizing that the same would not reap in the desired dividend.

NSF said it was appalled to see that those trained to protect the sovereignty and integrity of India were indulging in target practices with the innocent Naga civilians instead of serving the very purpose for which GoI had been spending major chunk of its GDP. “This blatant at-tempt to finish the Naga race cannot be accepted, come what may,” it said.

The federation conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and assured continued solidarity and prayer support.
