NGBF asks state govt to call off Hornbill Festival

Nagaland Gaonburah Federation (NGBF) has appealed to the State government to call off the ongoing Hornbill Festival immediately in solidarity with Naga victims who were brutally killed by Indian security forces.

Federation president Sahlem Konyak and general secretary Shikuto Zalipu in a press release insisted that a clear message must be given to Government of India that “we Nagas are one and that blood is thicker than water”.

Being representatives of grassroots people, they said the village chiefs deeply mourned the massacre of innocent sons and, in this hour of grief, they bestowed hope on the State government that justice would be delivered to the victims.

The NGBF leaders asserted that the perpetrators of such atrocities should not take Nagas for granted and walk away easily after committing such a heinous crime that deserved international condemnation.

“We must expose those conspirators behind the incident and the abrupt closing down of the Hornbill Festival shall be a good sign of unity,” they stressed.

In response to the call made by civil society organisations, tribal hohos and many others to stop Hornbill Festival, the said they would like to make a final call, adding that the government’s positive response would be highly appreciated.
