NPCC blames govt for escalation of violence

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), has blamed the state government for mishandling the situation that led to escalation of the massacre from Oting to the death of another civilian, injuries to many more and damage to properties.

NPCC president K Therie said he along with other members visited Oting village where they also attended the last rites. He said after hearing heavy firing on December 4, just after 4pm, the villagers had informed SP Mon, but were restrained from going down to the site. Therie said the village waited until 7pm and then they decided to go.

However, the VG commander of the village stopped everyone from carrying any type of weapon. Therie said the villagers went empty handed, some on bikes and others on foot.

He said several of those injured not go to hospital due to the distance and also that the villagers also did not know that the two injured (Yiewang and Sheiwang) were taken by the army to Dibrugarh Hospital.

Therie said that between 4pm and 7pm, the state government completely failed. He said that even the next day, they deliberately allowed things to slip after post mortem at Mon. “What was the necessity of shifting the bodies to Mon is best known after knowing that they were all shot dead?” Therie asked.

He said reports of insurgents camping in Tizit and Tiru area was not a new thing.

Ever since ceasefire, he said these factions have established camps in and around and that even the designated camp was allowed by government of India and the state government.

NPCC president alleged that the state government has adopted a policy to actively supporting negotiations and extortion on the public.

Therie said BJP was in alliance with the State government and was hand in glove with insurgents.

He said while the Prime Minister had announced the “problem has been resolved” and even the Interlocutor and Governor announced that “talks have concluded”; the State Government and NSCN(I-M) did not want solution to be implemented.

“Had the solution been implemented, the dastardly incident affecting scores of families would not have happened,” he said.

NPCC president demanded that the stakeholders’ views be considered more seriously “lest more of our sons lose their lives.”

Meanwhile, Therie said the Congress party has put up a demand to the Prime Minister for justice to the victims and compensation of Rs.1 crore to the deceased, Rs.10 lakh to the injured and adequate compensation for properties damaged.
