Panel on Naga issue to meet on Dec 9; Sarma likely to attend

Core Committee on Naga Political Issue is scheduled to hold a meeting in Kohima on December 9, during which Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also likely to attend.

Sarma, who is also the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance, has been assigned by the union home minister Amit Shah to assist chief minister Neiphiu Rio in making the Naga Political Groups come to an understanding for an early political solution so that peace and development could be accelerated.

Addressing a press conference, minister Neiba Kronu said that the Centre was very serious about resolving the Naga political issue.

“Together, we all must work for a solution once and for all, because we cannot continue like this anymore. With all seriousness let us all work for a solution so that we all live in peace,” he said. Kronu said that it was high time for the Nagas to work hard to bring a solution.

Also addressing the media, minister Temjen Imna Along said that the government under chief minister Neiphiu Rio was strong and stable. He pointed out that the government had also chosen to facilitate the peace process to find a lasting solution to the protracted Naga political issue.
