WTCYA celebrates silver jubilee

Wokha Town Catholic Youth Association (WTCYA) celebrated its silver jubilee on December 13 and 14 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Wokha on the theme “Fear Lord and Serve Him Truly and Sincerely” (Joshua 24:14).

In a press release, WTCYA media cell informed that during the programme, special guest, assistant director, department of social welfare, C. James Ezung lauded the congregation for their milestone and acknowledged the pioneers, jubilee committee members and church community for their contribution.

Recalling the last 25 years, he said that since its inception, the youth remained united in one spirit though the community was small in number.

James shared that through the support and initiative of the pioneers and the youth, a good foundation was laid despite hardships and challenges.

Meanwhile, during the Holy Mass celebration led by Most. Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocese who attended the occasion as main celebrant of the Holy Eucharist in His homily congratulated WTCYA members, pioneers and the community on the achievement. The Bishop highlighted that on World Youth Day 2011 in Madrid Spain, Pope Benedict XVI while addressing the young people laid a remark that everyone was given the extraordinary task of being disciples and missionaries of Christ in other lands and countries. In this regard, the Bishop urged the youth to find ways and means to serve the Lord sincerely. Focusing on the theme, he urged upon the congregation to be intimate with God through prayers, practicing forgiveness and sharing one’s faith. Jubilee greetings and messages were also delivered by the NCYM and LCYA.

During the first day of the celebration, flag hoisting was graced by first WTCYA president Tumchobemo N Humtsoe while launching of jubilee souvenir was done by block development officer (BDO) Mhabemo T Humtsoe. The Holy Mass celebration was led by Rev. Fr. John Nchumbemo Kikon.

Earlier, the jubilee monolith was unveiled in the presence of fathers and sisters, church leaders and delegates from different parish and units.
