Wokha village bodies– Wokha Village Youth Organization (WVYO), Wokha Village Students’ Union (WVSU) and Wokha Village Eloe Ekhung (WVEE)– resolved to impose total shutdown under Wokha district on November 1, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Medical, paramilitary and educational institutions have been exempted form the purview of the proposed shutdown.
In a joint statement, WVYO president Thungben T Humtsoe, WVSU president Chijamo E Tungoe and WVEE chairperson Nzano Tungoe said they have been compelled to impose shut down as the PWD (NH) has failed to respond its ultimatum within the stipulate date.
The Wokha village bodies had on September 29 last served a 30-day ultimatum on PWD (NH) to immediately construct the single intermediate lane (NH-61/ NH-2) to two-lane road from Miropen Gate to Hammock Resort under Wokha district.
The signatories appealed to all the citizens to extend cooperation during the bandh. They also informed that a general meeting would be held at Police Point, Wokha Town at 10 a.m. on November 1 and urged citizens to come with related agendas at the meeting “for the common cause of the Lotha general public.”
