Pangnyu inaugurates herbal garden

Minister for Health & Family Welfare (H&FW), S. Pangnyu Phom inaugurated the Herbal Garden at Borgohain Hall, Yingli College, Longleng on October 29. 

According to a DIPR report, Pangnyu said that herbal medicines were not a new topic but were something that had been in practice for a long period of time and in India, over 5,000 medical plants have been researched and estimated till date.

The minister stressed on the need to reach out to every nook and corners and explore more medicines which lay hidden in our forests.

In her short speech MO, AYUSH, Dr. Visino Nakhro, CHC Yachem said medicinal plants played an integral part in the country, particularly Northeast India which was a treasure house to tea and herbs.

State Medicinal Plant Board has been setting up herbal gardens to promote and conserve medicinal plants and it is an initiative taken to bring awareness and show the importance of herbal medicines, she informed.

She further said the State Medicinal Plant Board intends to establish herbal plant to popularise its importance and to conserve and use them for educational and research purposes.

Dr. Visino said under the scheme, State Medicinal Plant promote through the National Medicinal Plant Board, provides financial assistance to set up different types of herbal gardens to promote cultivating and create awareness among the local people.

This she said would also help marginal farmers to cultivate and raise their income.

Earlier, CMO Longleng Dr. Obangjungla chaired the programme, Yachem Students’ Union president, Hamlen Phom highlighted the report on the project, Yingli College principal, Dr. T. Temsu Imti proposed word of gratitude while Oushok Baptist Church associate pastor for women said the benediction and dedicatory prayer was said by Longleng Town Baptist Church pastor, Rev. H. Beau.
