Longshen public protest shifting of EAC Hq

Public of Longshen town under Mon district on Tuesday took out peaceful protest rally against the shifting of Longshen EAC HQ at Longshen town. The protest rally was jointly initiated by Longshen Town Students’ Union (LTSU), Longshen Town Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (LT-KNSK), Goan Buras Board and Longshen Town council.

In a statement, LTSU president M Mengan and general secretary Manjen T stated that a reminder note was submitted to the deputy commissioner (DC) Mon through EAC Longshen HQ after the rally.

According to LTSU, the public were dismayed with the silence of the government despite repeated appeals by Goan Buras Board Longshen, Tangnyu village council and Sheanghah Chingnyu village council against the shifting EAC HQ.

It alleged that the move to shift the town was “based on the vested interest of some selfish individuals and not based on the consensus of the denizens of Longshen town and the original land owners (Tangnyu and Sheanghah Chingnyu Village).”

Further, LTSU pointed out that the Mon district administration did not give any prior information or public notification regarding the shifting of Longshen EAC.

Describing as “totally absurd and irrational” the idea of shifting the town, the public affirmed that they would strongly oppose such move and warned that the government would solely be held responsible if any misunderstandings or untoward incidents arose.
