
District level awareness and sensitisation programme on Nagaland education project (NEP)- “The Light House (NECTAR)” with district level stakeholders, NGOs and various department was held in the district planning and development board (DPDB) Hall Kohima on November 4.
According to a DIPR report, principal director department of school education (DoSE) and project director, NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR), Shanavas C while highlighting the project said that DoSE initiated NEP-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) committed to focus its efforts on enhancing quality and learning outcomes of government schools and improving overall quality of education in the state.
He informed that Nagaland Enhancing classroom teaching and resources (NECTAR) would be the first-ever world bank financed education project in the North East region to be directly implemented by a state government.
He said that the project would breathe new life into the education system of the state as it faced several challenges.
This he said was ultimately reflected in the decline of students learning outcomes measured by the National Achievement Survey (NAS).
Therefore, he said, through this initiative, the government was committed to prioritise addressal of three targeted problems within a fixed project duration such as enhancing the governance of schools across the state, improvement in teaching practices and enhancement of overall learning environment.
He also informed that the project would envisage to directly benefit around 1.5 lakh students in government schools in Nagaland, 20,000 teachers including school heads, 100 district and sub-district officers’ members of 2000 SMC and SMDCs
DC Kohima Gregory Thejawelie also requested DoSE to address the prevailing issues and to ensure that education system in the state was improved with the right intervention to focus the quality of teachers.
The programme was chaired by project assistant, DMA SS Kohima Ruokuoneinuo while deputy secretary and deputy project director Avelu Ruho gave a PowerPoint presentation on community investment and collective management.
Senior SDEO Kohima, Theyievilie Suohumvii led the discussion hour and conclusion remark was delivered by DEO Kohima, Neizetuonuo.
