Refuting the claim of the Assam Rifles that its Kiphire Battalion conducted an interaction and coordination meet with Kiphire and Longmatra youth and student union at Longmatra on December 28, 2021, the Longmatra Town Students’ Union (LTSU) has served an ultimatum on officer in-charge of 41 AR at Operating Base Camp Longmatra to retract its statement within three days.
In a press release, LTSU president Lentsothe T Anar and general secretary Mercy T claimed that there was no such meeting neither with the youth of Longmatra nor with students’ union of Longmatra.
According to LTSU, the inaugural programme of the 35th session of LTSU, which was held in the public ground adjacent to 41 AR camp, was disturbed by the personnel of 41 AR by banging iron sheets and metals in their camp. The union also claimed that persistence phone calls were made to LTSU leaders and some elders asking about the conduct of the union’s programme when the programme was in full progress.
After the programme was over, LTSU said the student leaders had gone up to the camp to seek “clarification on the motive behind it.”
However, LTSU said that instead of giving clarification, the officer in-charge of 41 AR took photograph in the course of discussion and “came up with concocted write-up which appeared in the news media.”
In this regard, LTSU has condemned the action of 41 AR authority based at Longmatra Hq. for issuing “such a baseless and malicious statement with the intent to create discord within the region thus to realize their sinister design.”
Meanwhile, LTSU affirmed that it fully supported the non-cooperation movement extended towards security forces by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisations (ENPO).
