CPO, JCCV at loggerheads over new district

Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) and Joint Coordination Committee of Villages for Dimapur District (JCCV) have issued separate demands on the chief secretary and chief minister respectively in respect of villages that have been placed under the newly created Chümoukedima district.

CPO in a representation addressed to the chief secretary, reiterated its traditional boundary extended beyond present Nagaland-Assam boundary-west and north west, and south with Zeliang tribe; it also acknowledged that few Kachari, Kuki and Garo villages also were within traditional Chakhroma land.

CPO cited the above in its representation while reacting to an earlier press statement issued by “certain sections of people, purportedly representing 41 different villages/ colonies/organisations within Dhansiripar sub-division” who have opposed creation of Chümoukedima district and deciding that they “shall continue to remain under Dimapur district.”

JCCV rejects new dist: Meanwhile Joint Coordination Committee of Villages for Dimapur District (JCCV) in an open letter addressed to the chief minister Nagaland, by convener Lughozhe K Swu; Co-convener Tsithrongse Sangtam (Hd GB) and secretary Devendra Rana, said they have unequivocally resolved to remain with Dimapur District as resolved by the Aqahuto Tokukujo Kukami Kuqhakulu.

JCCV said creation of the Chümoukedima was done without having formal and broad consultations with stakeholders. They said such “arbitrary decision” at the “behest of certain section of people” in keeping half the people in the dark, was “not only undemocratic but tantamount to fomenting misunderstanding among Naga family.

JCCV reiterated that Dimapur district is a special place in Nagaland where all tribes of Nagaland and minority and majority communities all live in harmony.

JCCV, therefore, urged the government to reconsider its notification  that was unacceptable, and resolve the issue before January 20, 2022. Failing which, JCCV said the people of 41 Villages would be compelled to go on a hunger strike to reclaim its right and aspirations.
