Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) 2025 has made significant strides in Mokokchung and Tuensang districts, engaging thousands of farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
According to KVK sources, in Mokokchung district, since its launch by the Deputy Commissioner on May 29, 2025, VKSA has reached 6,000 farmers across 67 villages, despite challenging weather conditions.
Three teams, comprising ICAR scientists, KVK experts, and officials from allied departments, are visiting three villages per day, providing guidance on fertilizer usage, soil health management, climate-resilient technologies, natural farming, and livestock management.
Farmers have raised concerns about disease and pest infestations affecting major crops such as paddy, maize, chili, tomato, soybean, citrus, mango, and litchi. Other key issues include acidic soil management, natural farming feasibility, and value addition of local produce to boost income and reduce wastage.
Women farmers have shown interest in processing and value addition of vegetables and fruits, while livestock farmers have sought advice on vaccination schedules, African Swine Fever management, and Pashu Aadhaar registration. Experts are addressing these concerns with preventive and corrective solutions to promote eco-friendly agriculture.
VKSA has also made a strong impact in Tuensang, covering 64 villages over eight days and benefiting 7,866 farmers (5,027 males and 2,839 females).
Led by Dr. Pijush Kanti Biswas, senior scientist and Head, KVK Tuensang, the campaign involved experts from National Research Centre Mithun (NRCM), School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (CoVSc), and various government departments.
Key topics covered included Integrated Farming Systems, backyard poultry, scientific pig farming, artificial insemination, acidic soil reclamation, soil health cards, pest management, rainwater harvesting, and crop-specific technologies for banana, spices, and fruits.
During the campaign, 1,800 soil health cards were distributed to farmers, helping them improve soil management and productivity. The bottom-up approach of VKSA has empowered farmers by addressing village-specific challenges for future research and policy development.
VKSA, spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, is a nationwide campaign under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It is being implemented by 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), 113 ICAR institutes, three Central Agricultural Universities, 63 State Agricultural Universities, and state government departments.
The campaign aims to reach 1.5 crore farmers across 700 districts by June 12, 2025, as part of India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
