SBCK hosts ‘Pre-Centenary Music Ministry Celebration’

Sumi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK) marked a major milestone with the “Pre-Centenary Music Ministry Celebration”, held on June 8, 2025, as part of its year-long centenary celebrations under the theme “Faithful Through the Ages.”
The event honored the pioneers of SBCK’s music ministry while showcasing the church’s rich musical heritage. The celebration took place during the morning devotional service and evening Sunday service.
According to SBCK Centenary Jubilee, Media Cell, delivering the sermon, Rev. Hojevi Kappo, secretary of DoCMM, WSBAK, and former SBCK music director, reflected on the church’s history, particularly its legacy of musical bands in the 1980s. He emphasized the importance of preserving Sumi culture and the Sutsa mother tongue, mentioning that “Music and song are the identity of our people.”
The event also featured a musical fellowship, with performances from 12 bands, including Spring Voice, Healing Calls, Living Witness, True Vine, Male Voice, and the Centenary Choir.
Chairman of the Centenary Planning Board, Y. Kikheto Sema, announced the schedule for SBCK’s Pre-Centenary celebrations, featuring various church departments:
June 8 – Pre-Centenary Christian Education; July 27 – Pre-Centenary Youth Department; August 17 – Pre-Centenary Women Department; September 28 – Pre-Centenary Pioneers Celebration; October 26 – Pre-Centenary Events and November 8-9 – Centenary Jubilee Mass Celebration.
The evening session featured special presentations, including a dedicatory prayer by pastor Khekavi K. Yeptho, a greeting message from Er. Khevihse Yeptho, and a Centenary Leshe by Zhutovi Chisho. Former Youth leader Ghovili Achumi delivered a jubilee greeting.
The music celebration witnessed several prominent musicians, among them were Afuko Music School & Indigenous Arts, Jubilee Choir, Spring Voice, Healing Calls, Niu Lajupu, Living Witness, Family Music Band, LMST, Harmonica Brothers, Male Voice, Lokivi Lejo, Kukumugha Sutsa, Kikimiye Lejo and True Vine.
