Nagaland launches Polio Immunization drive

Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland launched the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) drive across the 16 districts on Sunday.
Dimapur: ADC Dimapur, Temsuwati Longkumer inaugurated IPPI Polio Sunday by administering the first two drops of polio vaccine to a beneficiary.
In his speech, the ADC appreciated efforts of the department, NGOs, local bodies, ASHAs and AWWs and urged them to continue their work and protect and immunize children not only from polio but also from other deadly diseases.
During the inaugural function, District Programme Officer, UIP/RCH, Dr. Rebecca stated that India had the last case of polio in 2011 and had been certified as “Polio Free” by World Health Organization on 2014. She however stated that IPPI has been carried out every year as neighboring countries such as Pakistan and Afghanistan were still polio endemic countries. She further stated that the achievement was due to tireless support of various NGOs, local authorities and communities and also due to diligence of health workers, ASHAs and AWWs. The release added that 530 booths were set up across Dimapur during Booth Day (Sunday).
Mon: In Mon the campaign was carried out District Hospital, Mon, targeting 25798 children in the age group of 0-5yrs.
In order to ensure every child was immunised, 302 regular booths were set up covering 137 villages, which would be followed by two days house to house visits. The campaign in Mon Town was carried out by Youth Department, Konyak Baptist Church Mon (KBCM)
The release added that in the inaugural programme, Dy Director & Nodal Officer, NSAC State Monitor, Dr Asangla Jamir acknowledged all health care workers for Immunization of children. She further requested healthcare workers to continuously sustain their hard work, and thanked parents of children for accepting vaccine.
Mokokchung: Mokokchung too joined the rest of the country in launching the IPPI 2022 at Imlong Place. A press release by CMO office Mokokchung, stated that the programme was launched by ADC Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh, who also administered the first polio drop.
In his short speech, he stated that two drops of polio should be administered to all children between 0-5 years, adding that India was a polio free country but there was high risk of transferring PolioVirus from neighboring countries where polio disease was still active.
Dy. CMO, Dr. Aonungdok, in his short speech added that, in 1995 following Global Polio eradication initiative of the WHO, India launched IPPI with Universal Immunization programme and was declared Polio free in the year 2014, with the last case of Polio being detected in 2011.
The target among 0-5 year old children in the district was 7406 would be covered through 224 Polio booth across Mokokchung.
Longleng: District health society Longleng launched the campaign at NST junction in presence of ADC, Robin, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Obangjungla, DPO (RCH/UIP) Dr. Imnameren Phom, staff from MS and CMO office establishment and other well wishers.
A press release by CMO office, Longleng, stated that the programme was launched by ADC, Robin, who administered the first two drops.
While delivering his short speech, the ADC motivated parents and health workers to utilize and create awareness on different activities carried out by medical department.
He also urged upon all parents to administer polio drops to each and every children. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Imnameren phom delivered brief description about polio virus, its effects and preventive measures. He reported that 64 polio booth centers were set up across to cover up all targeted children in the age group of 0-5 years.
Kiphire: The campaign was carried out in Kiphire where ASHAs of eleven wards in Kiphire town volunteered to cover 11 booths to administer two drops of polio to children under supervision of medical staff. Kiphire district targeted was to cover 134 booths during IPPI campaign covering all Health Units and villages under the district.
Phek: A brief inaugural programme was held at Chief Medical Officer Office, where District Immunization Officer (DIO) Phek, Dr.Kolhitso Khalo reminded all health workers and volunteers to follow Covid appropriate behaviour at polio booths and during house to house visits.
He informed that the objective of IPPI popularly known as Polio Sunday was to eradicate polio from the country.
The district targets to administer polio drop to 12000 children in the age group of 0 to 5 years. Altogether 195 polio booths have been set up across the district with the deployment of 770 staff and volunteers to carry out the activities.
Shamator: According to DIPR report, the campaign was carried out at PHC Shamator and health centres across the district. Deputy Commissioner, Thsuvisie Phoji and Superintendent of Police, Amit Kumar joined medical staff. Medical officer, Shamator, Dr. Mhathung thanked DC and SP for the encouragement through their services.
Wokha: Department of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Meribeni Odyuo administered the first drop of polio to a beneficiary in the presence of chief medical officer (CMO) Wokha, Dr. Tumchobeni at CMO office, Wokha.
The release further stated that deputy CMO Wokha, Dr. Zuben Kikon encouraged the beneficiaries to avail polio vaccines and informed that 41 booths were set up across Wokha town.
Tuensang: In Tuensang, Medical Superintendent District, Dr. Kuotsutho launched IPPI by administering two drops of Pulse Polio at District Hospital Tuensang, in the presence of DPO (UIP & RCH), Dr. Thungchanpani Patton, district supervisor’s teams, doctors and nurses from District Hospital Tuensang.
A press release stated that 242 Polio booth centers were set up across Tuensang to cover 13,672 targeted children in age group of 0 to 5 years. It added that team members would continue the activity for two more days through house to house activities, to cover up children who were left out in the Polio booth centers.
Zunheboto: In Zunheboto, the campaign was carried out at CMO office Zunheboto, with ADC, Moakumzuk Tzudir launching the programme and administering the first polio drop to an eligible beneficiary.
A press release by district media office, Zunheboto, stated that Tzudir encouraged parents to come forward to create awareness as immunization programme was conducted to eradicate Polio.
