‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ concludes at ICAR-NRCM

ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema organised the closing ceremony of “Swachhta Pakhwada” on Friday. The fortnightly activities commenced on December 16. 

In a press release, ICAR-NRC on Mithun informed that at the closing programme, in-charge director, Dr. Nazrul Haque congratulated all for the accomplishment of Swachh Bharat Pakhwada.

He also presented a brief report of the activities carried out by the institute under the mission of Swachh Bharat.

Speaking at the programme, an officer from the Assam Rifles also emphasised on the need to keep one’s environment and premises clean. He highlighted the history of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and said that it was currently the largest cleanliness campaign in the world.

The officer acknowledged ICAR-NRCM for being the “only research institute for Mithun in the world” and expressed appreciation to the institute for spearheading the campaign through various activities. He said that the Assam Rifles would be happy to collaborate on activities related to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the future.

A press briefing on the institute activities and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was also conducted by Doordarshan, Kohima.

The closing ceremony was attended by staff of the institute, farmers and public with 66 participants.

During the fortnight, activities including displaying of banner at prominent places, taking swachhta pledge, cleaning the campus premises and adopted villages (Jharnapani and Porba) with mass participation were carried out.

Composting of organic wastes was also demonstrated to the public along with campaign on cleaning of sewerage, water lines and curbing of use of Single Use plastic (SUP).

It may be mentioned that the Swachhta Pakhwada launched by government of India is a fortnight-long programme observed to ensure mass participation of citizens in Swachhta activities.
