Lasumi Students’ Union holds 60th general session

DIMAPUR: The Lasumi Students’ Union (LSU) observed its 60th general session on December 29.
In a press release, LSU informed that speaker of the programme, Er. Visakho Therie acknowledged the pioneers for their wisdom and farsighted vision to form the body in 1961 which he said had since guided and sustained education to the Lasumi public thus far.
He urged upon the village leaders and student bodies to ensure smooth functioning of the Government Middle School in the village
He stressed on the necessity to allow only genuine teachers and that their performances be evaluated.
Visakho also advised LSU to oversee the attendance of students as the foundation of an education for children was the most important.
On the theme “ignite and revamp”, he said that it should represent a wake-up call for the LSU and help them venture into the future more prepared and equipped.
Later, he proposed a three-point resolution to the student body which included: teachers and students’ regulation; to impart tuition to interested students funded by VDB funds and to form a committee to guide and pursue job vacancies or placements for employments in various departments or establishments.
The speaker also unveiled the LSU diamond jubilee monolith.
Delivering the presidential address, Tsütshowelhi Marhu called upon the students and village community to remember the pioneers for their wisdom and vision and the collective participation of every individual.
He stressed on the importance of the union as it had provided a platform to advocate unity, inculcate discipline, provide exposure, render social services and build leaders.
The session was chaired by Nyitso Therie, invocation was said by Phek Town Baptist Church, associate pastor Ngutsolo Therie and jubilee souvenir magazine was released by VCC Kedulhipe Krome.
Meanwhile, Chakhesang Students’ Union vice president, Diekute Mero and first Lasumi Students’ Union president Nguchünyi Khupf delivered greetings.
A dedicatory prayer for the occasion was said by LCRC pastor, Wetsope Krome.
New office bearers for the tenure 2022-2024 was also elected and blessed with prayer by Rev. Dingu Kenye.
The session ended with a benediction from LBC women pastor, Lhiwetsolo-ü Pradia.
Earlier, a two-minute silence was observed in honour of its departed pioneers, student leaders and the victims of the Oting massacre.
