Independent legislator, T Yangseo Sangtam was elected unopposed as the deputy speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Saturday.
Since there was no other candidate who had filed nominations, NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer declared Yangseo as elected unopposed to the post.
A first-time MLA from the Pungro-Kiphire constituency, Yangseo won the November 2021 by-poll after the seat fell vacant following the demise of NPG legislator T. Torechu.
The post of deputy speaker was earlier held by Zhaleo Rio. However, the post fell vacant after Zhaleo was made advisor of sericulture, excise and minority affairs.
Meanwhile, NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer, chief minister Neiphiu Rio and NPF legislature party leader T.R. Zeliang congratulated Yangseo and hoped that he would deliver his responsibilities diligently while maintaining the decorum of the House.
Yangseo, while seeking the support and cooperation of all members, assured to discharged his duty with all fairness.
In a statement, deputy chief minister, Y. Patton congratulated Yangseo on being elected as NLA deputy speaker and wished him the best as he steps into this pivotal role.
