KMC organises workshop on waste management

Plastic waste worsened since pandemic: KMC administrator

DIMAPUR: As part of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” initiative, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) organised a workshop-cum-awareness programme on “plastic waste management and segregation of waste” at KMC officeon Friday.
According to a DIPR report, speaking on the occasion, KMC administrator, Lanusenla Longkumer said that plastic waste had worsened since the pandemic.
She said the waste was polluting Kohima town which would create ill effect for the environment and every individual.
Terming this as “a collective failure”, she urged every individual to have a sense of responsibility to manage waste segregation and to sensitise one another before the air becomes unbreathable.
Lanusenla also urged upon the public to use single plastic reusable or recycle to keep the city healthy and clean. The administrator informed that composting and enforcing not to throw plastic wastes in drainage and streets would start soon.
She acknowledged ZübZüb team for their tireless efforts for a cleaner Kohima.
Meanwhile, KMC assistant chief inspector, Neilhouphrelie spoke on plastic waste and segregation.
ZübZüb founder, Pelenuo informed that the main goal of ZübZüb was to educate and sensitise the people on how to keep the town clean and free from pollution.
She said the team has been continuously cleaning the streets for free from the month of June 2021 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day.
Pelenuo urged upon the people to maintain waste management to keep the surroundings beautiful.
Sharing on plastic vision, India Waste Solution, an NGO, team leader Vizashe Mekro informed that plastic bank would be set up in every ward and colony soon and later in other districts where every household could donate any kind of plastic, including sweets wrappers for recycling.
Later, Gwizan Organics Technology, Roko Savino shared on the usage of organic manual called Green Bran.
