Dimapur District Auto Drivers Union (DDADU) president, Tito Yeptho on Wednesday, informed Nagaland Post that after a routine checking for two days, the union detained around 200 drivers without proper union IDs and uniforms.
He informed that this would be the “final warning” to all defaulters and if caught, the drivers along with their auto rickshaws would be taken to the union office and dealt with “as per the constitution of the union.”
He said that the same routine was being carried out to curb instances where auto drivers from outside ply without proper driving license, and to provide opportunity and platform for registered members with proper IDs, drivers’ licenses (DL) and uniforms.
Citing various incidents, Tito lamented that the defaulters were hampering wages of registered members.
In this regard, he appealed to passengers to ply on autos with proper union IDs and uniforms. He also appealed to owners of auto rickshaws to refrain from letting drivers without proper IDs and DLs use their auto as it put the lives of passengers at risk.
Further, Tito urged upon all the auto drivers to get registered for the benefit of everyone. To get registered with DDADU, one could contact 9383088456 or 8014568902. However, only drivers with valid driver’s licence would be allowed registration.
